MILESTONE is the annual literary arts magazine for East Los Angeles College since 1950 and encourages submissions from students and staff, the East Los Angeles community, and beyond. For over half a century, Milestone has aimed to present diverse student voices and has showcased the works of renowned local artists, including: Luis J. Rodriguez (Milestone 1979), current Poet Laureate of Los Angeles; authors R. Steven Johnson (Milestone 2011), and Joseph Mattson (Milestone 2015); Jay Parker (Milestone 1980, 1981), actor, playwright, and proprietor of the Mosaic Lizard Theater in Alhambra, CA; and the late celebrated poet and painter Carol Lem (Milestone 1997, 2001-2003, 2012).

We currently publish one print publication each Spring. To get a feel for the sort of artistry Milestone is looking for, please feel free to read our latest. New issues are available for sale at the ELAC Bookstore and the ELAC English Department, and available for checkout at the ELAC Helen Miller Library. Every piece we publish is, in a sense, a kind of milestone for its creator.
